An introduction to qedata's features

Traditionally, the implementation of an interactive online database has required expertise, equipment and bandwidth unavailable to the typical home or small business Internet user. Even within larger companies, online databases take up valuable IT resources, both from an equipment and an expertise perspective.

Qedata makes the creation of most any kind of business application very simple:

No Software to download or upgrade

Creating your own application on qedata requires no software or upgrading, and takes up no space on your hard drive or server. The only requirements are your computer and a browser.

Importing and Exporting Data

In a few simple steps, you can import or export any data to or from a variety of different formats (text-based, spreadsheet, etc.).

Security

We take security concerns very seriously. qedata applications can optionally be run on a secure server with access controlled by username and password authentication. Individual user rights can be configured in order to specify which users are allowed to perform which actions. Higher levels of security are available if required.

Powerful, flexible interface

Qedata provides access to tables via a powerful data grid. The grid allows the user to sort, filter and search data very rapidly without requiring any knowledge of SQL (Standard Query Language).

All tables in the system are presented in a similar grid, providing a single uniform way of interacting with the data. Through simple mouse clicks the user can:

  • Sort by any column by clicking on the column header
  • Filter data on any criteria within any column (ranges can be specified for numeric and date fields)
  • Search on any column by typing the beginning of the required value. I.e., to find 'Smith', I would type 'S' in the search box and press the 'Search' button. The grid will immediately jump to the first record that begins with 'S'.
  • Easily navigate the data with a navigation toolbar 'Page up', 'Page down', etc.
  • Select which columns are visible in the grid.
  • Export the grid in a variety of different formats respecting filter and sort criteria.
  • Change the appearance of the grid - whether there are grid lines, alternate row colouring for readability, etc.
  • Change the order of the columns.
  • Print the grid.

Editing data

Applications developed with qedata can handle many different types of fields. These include text fields, numeric fields, dates, graphic images, uploaded files, etc. All editing is performed in a similar manner to increase the users' familiarity with the interface as much as possible.

In addition, there exists a powerful import routine that will accept files in a multitude of different formats and guide the users through the import process via a set of helpful screens.
